Parents and students are coming together at the Talbott STEAM Innovation School in Widefield for two weeks as part of the latest edition of the “Kidpower” program.

Using a unique variety of tools, the non-profit program is designed to teach kids of all ages how to say no, set boundaries, avoid danger and speak up at school.

It also teaches basic parenting skills.

“We recognize that it’s really difficult to talk to kids about how to be safe. So Kidpower does it in a way that’s respectful, empowering and just fun, never scary,” Angela Hamilton, Program Director of Kidpower of Colorado said.

The program is even more important these days, as school districts face budget cuts and need to find ways to do more, with less. These kind of community partnerships help students stay safe in and outside of school.
